Adam Siebers, Office of Revisor of Statutes, provided an overview for HB2036 that provides a subtraction modification for Kansas income tax for amounts received as compensation for serving in the armed forces. (Attachment 1)

Kathleen Smith, Kansas Department of Revenue, stated HB2036 is a bill from last year and the estimates provided would decrease the State General Fund $2.3 million in FY2026, $7.6 million in FY2027, and $7.7 million in FY2028 and is based on 17,300 or so active duty National Guard and Reserve members.
