She responded to questions.
Jeremy Salsbury, Kansas Association of Nurse Anesthetists, testified in support of the legislation. He described the various services a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) offers, especially in rural and underserved areas of the state. (Attachment 2)
Jason Werth, testified in support of the legislation. He stated he is a CRNA practicing in the rural areas of the state. The legislation would remove current barriers for CRNA professionals to practice to the full extent of their training. (Attachment 3)
William Wilk, Kansas Chamber of Commerce testified in support of the legislation. He stated the chamber supports legislation to reduce government barriers on healthcare professionals without sacrificing safety concerns. (Attachment 4)

Rachelle Colombo, Kansas Medical Society, testified against the legislation. She explained that the CRNA is one of four categories of advanced practice registered nurses (APRN). The CRNAs have a separate practice act established in 2010. Currently they are not required to have direct physician supervision but are limited in other areas of healthcare. She suggested language that would mirror statutory language for the other categories of APRN practitioners. (Attachment 5)
Dr. Kathy Perryman testified against the legislation. She offered her experience as a former CRNA. She chose to go to medical school to become a physician. She expressed concern of removing physician oversight from a CRNA administering anesthesia and other procedures. (Attachment 6)
