Ms. Moyer provided a briefing on the legislation. (Attachment 3)
Mike Burgess, Disability Rights Center of Kansas, testified in support of the bill. The bill would transfer the awareness programs for prenatal or postnatal diagnosed conditions from the current Kansas Department of Health and Environment to the Kansas Council on Developmental Disabilities. (Attachment 4)
Jeanne Gawdun, Kansans for Life, testified in support of the bill and the implementation of the current program to transfer to the disability community. (Attachment 5 )
Lola Kernell, Kansas Council on Developmental Disabilities, testified in support of the bill. She shared her personal story, as a member of the disability community with Down syndrome. She stated support for access to information in order for parents, either prenatal or postnatal, to understand and celebrate their child's unique abilities. (Attachment 6)
Sara Hart Weir, Kansas Council on Developmental Disabilities responded to several questions.
