Chair Humphries opened the hearing on SB244.
Jason Thompson, Office of Revisor of Statutes, gave the bill brief. (Attachment 1)
Proponent Shane Rolf, Kansas Bail Agents Association, testified that this bill would prohibit bonding companies from extending loans on the minimum bonding fee and disallow compensated sureties from being in the business of making loans for this purpose. (Attachment 2)
Proponent Senator Stephen Owens testified that this bill would clarify that compensated sureties can have no part in the lending process on the initial 5% of a bond. (Attachment 3)
