The Chair opened the hearing on HB2557.
Jessie Pringle, Assistant Revisor, gave a bill brief as an overview of HB2557. (Attachment 1) The bill enacts the revised 2007 language of the new Interstate Compact for the Placement of Children (ICPC). Ms. Pringle stood for questions from the committee.
Rebecca Gerhardt, Director of Permanency and Licensing for the Department for Children and Families (DCF) gave proponent testimony. The bill will address inconsistencies in interpretation among the states. (Attachment 2) (Attachment 3) Ms. Gerhardt stood for questions from the committee.
Kerrie Lonard, Child Advocate, OCA, gave proponent testimony. The bill will address concerns the office has received regarding the ICPC process, including shared language and definitions. (Attachment 4) Ms. Lonard stood for questions from the committee.
Kristalle Hedrick, CEO, Children's Alliance of Kansas, gave proponent testimony. Ms. Hendrick said the bill will support a smoother interstate coordination. (Attachment 5) There were no questions for Ms. Hedrick.
