The hearing on SB 409 was opened by Chairperson Dietrich. Revisor Eileen Ma gave an overview of the bill. (Attachment 1)

Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt was the first to speak in favor of the bill. (Attachment 2)

Dr. Amy Patel of Liberty Hospital spoke as a proponent via WebEx. (Attachment 3)

Ryan Reza  of Susan G Komen testified in support of the bill. (Attachment 4)

Dr. Michael Morrow of American Telemammography voiced support for the bill via WebEx. (Attachment 5)

Megan Word of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network also stood as a proponent of the bill. (Attachment 6)

Peggy Johnson spoke as a private citizen and breast cancer survivor in favor of the bill. (Attachment 7)

Written proponent testimony was also received from:

Representative Laura Williams, 30th District (Attachment 8) and

Representative Linda Featherston, 16th District (Attachment 9).

Andrew Wiens of the Kansas Employers for Affordable Healthcare opposed the bill. (Attachment 10)

There was additional opponent, written only testimony provided by William Wilk of the Kansas Chamber. (Attachment 11)

Neutral, written only testimony was received from Sarah Fertig of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas. (Attachment 12)

The conferees stood for questions from the Committee after verbal testimony was given. 

Chairperson Dietrich closed the hearing on SB 409.
