Clarifying that the chairperson and vice chairperson of the senate committee on confirmation oversight shall have access to review tax information from the department of revenue and Kansas bureau of investigation background checks on persons appointed to state offices who are subject to senate confirmation.

Chairwoman Warren welcomed everyone to committee today. First we have a point of personal privilege for Senator Haley. Senator Haley introduced some guests today from Alpha Capa Alpha Sorority. Chairwoman welcomed them to Senate Judiciary committee.
Chairwoman Warren opened the hearing on SB427.
Natalie Scott, Revisors Office, gave an overview of the bill and stood for questions and further discussion.(Attachment 1)
Edward Penner, Assistant Director for Research, Kansas Legislative Research Department, provided the history of the Senate confirmation oversight of non-gubernatorial appointees, the current process for the review for such appointments and the changes proposed to be made to that process. (Attachment 2)
Senator, Chase Blasi, Majority Leader, Senate Chamber, along with Senate Minority Leaker, Dinah Sykes, provide support of the bill. Senator Blasi states they believe SB427 is a narrowly tailored, commonsense correction that strengthens legislative oversight, maintains confidentiality, and supports a transparent and accountable confirmation process.
