The hearing on HB 2592 was opened.

Natalie Scott, Revisor of Statutes, briefed HB 2592.(Attachment1)

Representative Nick Hoheisel presented testimony on HB 2592.(Attachment2) He stated that artificial intelligence and emerging technologies are no longer something on the horizon, it is already here.  HB 2592 creates a task force that brings the right people to the table. Health care industry should be on the task force. A major focus of this bill is preparing our workforce and students for the future.The jobs in the future will look very different from the jobs many of us grew up with. We need to make sure our education and training systems are keeping pace. The task force will report back to the Legislature with clear recommendations. Representative Hoheisel stood for questions.

Anne Marie Yatsula testified as a proponent on HB 2592.(Attachment3) She testified that artificial intelligence affects all cities and towns. The League of Kansas Municipalities is happy to help with the task force. The League requests the committee consider an amendment that would add a city representative to the proposed task force. She stood for questions.

Shelby Rowell, provided neutral testimony on HB 2592.(Attachment4) Kansas Health Institute (KHI) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit agency.  KHI testimony provided information policy analysis of how different states have approached the creation of state artificial intelligence (AI) advisory bodies with legislation. Also included in the testimony are resources for further review by the committee. She stood for questions.
