Chairwoman Warren opened the hearing on SB425

Jason Thompson, Revisor's Office, provided an overview of the bill and stood for questions.  (Attachment 1)

Brittany Jones, Kansas Family Life, testified in support of the bill.  She stated that SB425 is a simple bill to ensure that during child support proceedings courts consider the baby still in the womb and make provisions accordingly. (Attachment 2)

Mackenzie Haddix, Deputy Communications Director with Kansans for Life, testified in support of SB425.  This bill addresses some of the financial concerns pregnant women face by instructing the court to consider the direct pregnancy-related medical and other expenses. (Attachment 3)

Written-only testimony, in support of the bill was submitted by Lucrecia Nold, Kansas Catholic Conference, Public Policy Specialist. (Attachment 4)

Taylor Morton, Kansas Lobbyist and Policy Analyst, Planned Parenthood Great Plains Votes, testified in opposition of the bill. She stated while on the surface, SB425 appears to be a means of supporting pregnant people and families, a closer look reveals this bill as nothing more than an attempt to further an anti-abortion agenda.  (Attachment 5)

Senator Corson asked two questions to Kansas Legislative Research Department staff.  Responses were submitted to the committee on 2/15/24. (Attachment 6)
