Chairperson Gossage opened the hearing on HB2547.
Jenna Moyer, Staff Revisor gave an overview of the bill. (Attachment 6) She answered questions from committee members.
Alexandra Blasi testified in support of HB2547. (Attachment 7) She said that HB2547 would amend and update the opportunity for pharmacists to distribute, schools to maintain, and school nurses to administer emergency epinephrine and albuterol at schools and school events.
Kimberly Martin spoke in support of HB2547. (Attachment 8) She stated that HB2547 will allow school nurses and trained personnel to not only save lives, but also impact student health and safety which will ultimately increase attendance and student achievement.
Leah Fliter gave proponent testimony for HB2547 by stating that KASB policies support giving school districts the authority to address student health and wellness. (Attachment 9) HB2547 will allow schools to stock supplies of emergency medicines that could be used to treat individuals in case they are needed. This bill also protects from civil liability a person acting in good faith who administers one of the treatments acting in good faith.
