Chairperson Dietrich opened the hearing on HB2043. Revisor Eileen Ma gave an overview of the bill before the Committee and stood for questions.(Attachment 1)
Eric Turek of the Department of Insurance spoke in favor of the bill.(Attachment 2) He reminded the Committee that it was similar to the one previously heard in Committee as SB23. The House bill was amended to change the language regarding response time by agents and insurers to Department of Insurance inquiries in general. He answered questions from the Committee.
Marlee Carpenter for the Kansas Association of Property and Casualty Insurance Companies gave neutral testimony for the bill. (Attachment 3) She stated that there were concerns with the amendment that had been made to the bill which now required a blanket 14 calendar day response time by agents and insurers to any Department of Insurance inquiry, which does conflict with other statutes and time requirements.
There was no other testimony.
